Our Congregation was established in 1838. Through the efforts of Jesse C. Scofield, land was acquired and the church built before the choice of a denomination was made. We are a congregation of the Reformed church in America, established in New Amsterdam in 1628 and one of the three oldest Protestant denominations with a continuous ministry in the United States today.

In keeping with our history of establishing the congregation first and choosing a denomination second, we are first and foremost a Church of Jesus Christ, providing a church home for people of many different denominational backgrounds.

This “light. .. set on a hill” by fourteen charter members was the beginning of a journey in faith which continues today, bonded in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, guided by devoted Pastors, and supported by God’s gifts of grace. Through trials and triumphs, “The Hill Church” grows and prospers under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

We are a community church which has continuously served Christ in the Walden area for over 185 years.

The mission of the First Reformed Church of Walden, New York, is to reveal the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our congregation and community. We sincerely promote the Word of God for all ages through worship, study, love, commitment, and discipleship. We therefore commit ourselves to provide programs and activities for all age groups within our congregation and community, so that all may experience the love and presence of the Holy Spirit.

“By this we know that we abide in God and God in us, because the Lord has given us his own Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.”
– I John 4:13
